Republicans, led by Donald Trump, are again crashing the economy.
But this time, it truly is different: there is a new light at the end of the tunnel.
The light of MAGAchukuo.
Trump’s tariffs are misnomered, as those calling them a tax know, but even this is not enough: they are sanctions. Trump is sanctioning the American people.
The reason for this is simple: Trump is creating demand for colonialism.
Trump’s bargain with America that he ran on during the election was to carve up the world with CHINAH, which would get East Asia, russia, which would take Europe, and the Trumpreich, which would take North America. Iran would fill in the blanks.
This was implicit in Trump’s vision for American power and Ukraine. Trump now believes he has full public backing for the global order underwriting the Trumpreich.
The main impediment is global trade. No one will go to a colonial war for the Trumpreich while the modern economy still functions. And Trump, a student of Hitlerian history, knows a new global trade war is needed to reverse the clock.
Republicans deliberately created the conditions for World War II with Smoot-Hawlet but failed to consolidate their world order. The point of Smoot-Hawley was to create the world of the 1930s. The logic of international trade and degenerate liberal globalization would give way to the logic of seizure, with autarkic fascist blocs consuming the world. Despite its similarities, this fascist mode of development, too, was at odds with the concurrent imperialist mode of trade, which still made room for the natives by preferably robbing them rather than simply exterminating them.
With Smoot-Hawley, Republicans effectively locked Japan out of American markets. Dealt a grievous blow, Japan’s liberal project gave way to Showa agitations. The international system that liberals promised would have a place for Japan’s prosperity was shown to be a lie, said the Showa. Strength alone could deliver wealth and security, not effeminate, liberal, decadent international agreements.
With the domestic Japanese economy in freefall amid Smoot-Hawley and the wider Great Depression, the Showa pointed the way to salvation: Manchukuo.
This story, of course, is well-known to all Americans, so it bears little repeating. Manchukuo was Japan’s Manifest Destiny: a new, captive market for producers, a source of ample lebensraum for pioneers, and an outlet for general sadism.
What does seem to require exposition are Trump’s intentions. Liberal imagination remains bound to the borders of the United States. When a MAGAt remarks that he will own a factory under the Trumpreich, the liberal instinct is to laugh at his delusion and retort that he will be working in a shoe factory if it’s not automated.
But the MAGAt is correct. He will own a factory. In MAGAchukuo.
By nuking the American economy, Trump is imposing the logic Smoot-Hawley placed on Japan onto the United States. Rather than prospering through trade, Trump’s mercantilism demands colonies. This was the bargain Trump made with Putin and America during the 2024 campaign. Trump’s sanctions are a prerequisite for his colonial project, giving him boundless opportunities to reward loyalists.
Once the Trumpreich reaches its temporary limits of dispossession against liberals, Canada and Mexico will be up next for the shakedown. As the “international siege” takes its toll on USians and as the right-wing outrage factories are the only ones humming, amerikkkattle will demand to be unleashed across the continent and beyond. Madagascar does have all that vanilla, and no one to guard it.
In Canada and Mexico, there will be abundance (thanks, Axis liberals). The Trumpreich will gin up resentment to justify their conquest to a desperate nation. After Trump is forced to open the landfills so we may smelt backyard MAGAluminum, a metal cruelly deprived from us by the cheating “allies” who never said “thank you,” who wouldn’t take their chances in MAGAchukuo?
Of course, what Donnie wants isn’t necessarily what he gets. However, understanding Trump's intent is key to defeating him. However, so far, few, if any, are vocalizing the true outlines of the new world he seeks to create and likely will save for two things.
France’s independent (lest we fall into Putinist “sovereign” discourse") nuclear arsenal prevented the Trumpreich from moving on Canada immediately after the election and may yet delay his colonial ambitions long enough for Germany to rearm. Then, with 20,000 VW and Porsche panzers stationed in Canada and Mexico, Trumpreich forces may be drawn to the borders, allowing BlueAnon loyalists to launch a lightning offensive that cuts their supply lines, swiftly defeating them.
Then, with Punished Democrats nationalizing the entire U.S. economy and placing it under the command of the girlboss managerial class, the Stupid Rich People material foundations of the Trumpreich will be annihilated.
All of the above is exceedingly obvious to many and has been for years, like everything about Trump. But even though Trump told voters his plans directly to the smallest details in Project 2025, it has still come as a shock to many. Therefore, by saying the obvious about Trump yet again, perhaps we can be on the same page to defeat him.
