Majoritarianism in an Illiberal context = Fascism

When the cynical journalist Frédéric Taddeï working for Russia Today was asked if it was not problematic for his intellectual independence to work with Kremlin money, he replied: "You know, Putin is a very popular person. He would be reelected with a landslide if Russia had unrigged elections"

This sentence rent free in my head since then, because it perfectly encapsulates why Free Humans/Liberals shouldn't give a flying fuck about the opinion of majorities living under the conditioning of Axis mentats

Russoids, indeed, would reelect Putler tomorrow with free elections. Chinese would do the same with Xi Jinping. Germans in 1945 would reelect Hitler as well. And a majority of Syrian Sunni (especially the urban Shami) would favor Assad over any uncertainty

Our enemies will use the majoritarian appeal of Plebiscites to destroy Liberalism and Democracy itself, as Fascists used all the tools popularized by Jacobins (mass conscription, centralization, nation state) to burry the intellectual legacy of 1789

"We have erased 1789 from history." (Goebbels on the radio of April 1, 1933)

"Herrenvolk societies are built on consensual abuse, which is why there is no freedom movement among West Taiwanese or opposition to the ongoing Uyghur Genocide or any antiwar protests in Russia for that matter"

Excellent article. The notion of "majoritarianism" and "consent" in foreign politics have become entirely pro-fascist/pro-genocide

If you have made a poll in Nazi Germany in 1944 or among Hutu Power militias in 1994, the population would have overwhelmingly proclaim his opposition to regime change (the Stauffenberg attempt caused a great shock among the average Kraut)

If you have made a poll among African-American slaves in 1850, the majority would have rejected a military intervention from Northern Abolitionist ("It's too risky, our masters could kill us all")

If you have made a poll among French people in 1941, the majority would have rejected Operation Overlord over the collateral damages of strategic bombing ("We don't want to die under the rubble, Vichy status-quo is preferable"). 70 000 French civilians actually perished from Anglo-US bombing, more than Gaza casulaties. Our contemporary Chapo Leftoids/DSA subverters so critical of US interventionism would back then vilify FDR and support the statu quo with an Axis-occupied Europe (the majority of Nazi collaborationists in France were indeed former "Lefty Pacifists")

Illiberal regimes create a perversely majoritarian consent for abuse (as you said). Mafia exist through the same Stockholm syndrome (and what is illiberalism if not a perfected Mafiosi system?)

We always hear Pacifist, Fascists and Tankies saying: "The majority of Iranians/Venezuelians are against a foreign intervetion/regime change". That's 100% true and we shouldn't care. These nations are no different from Sicilians internalizing the oppression of Cosa Nostra and normalizing the law of silence
